How to Connect Mailchimp to Squarespace

If you’re currently using (or thinking about using) the Mailchimp platform to grow your business and connect with customers, there’s a good chance that you will also want to integrate your Mailchimp account with your Squarespace website.

Today, this Squarespace and Showit website designer is detailing exactly how to connect the two—and creative ideas for doing so.

What Mailchimp is

Mailchimp is a service that allows you to connect with your audience through email marketing and grow/manage your email list. Mailchimp is a popular choice among Squarespace users because it is currently the only third-party email marketing platform that integrates directly with Squarespace, apart from Squarespace Email Campaigns.

Through Mailchimp, you can send a variety of automated, scheduled, and spontaneous emails to your entire email list, including one with a lead magnet such as a free PDF or download attached when someone signs up for your list.

Mailchimp plans come with audience management, creative tools, and insights and analytics to help you manage your business, and boasts award-winning support, 250+ app integrations, and a directory of trusted pros to help you take your marketing to the next level.

Pricing

Mailchimp offers a variety of plans at different pricing depending on the size of your business and your email marketing needs. These plans are the “marketing” plans, which cover email campaigns and Squarespace integration.

Free

This plan, described as containing “all the multichannel tools you need to start marketing” is completely free to start, and offers an email builder, marketing CRM, forms & landing pages, a creative assistant, a website builder, & a Mailchimp domain.

Essentials

This plan, described as being “for growing businesses who want more customization and 24/7 support,” includes email templates, custom branding, A/B testing, and 24/7 email + chat support. It starts at $9.99/month based on 500 contacts.

Standard

This plan, described as being designed “for advanced businesses that want more automations and data-powered tools,” offers send time optimization, behavioral targeting, custom templates, and dynamic content. It starts at  $14.99/month based on 500 contacts.

Premium

This plan is for “high-volume senders who want all marketing features and phone support,” and starts at $299.99/month based on 10,000 contacts. It boasts advanced segmentation, multivariate testing, comparative reporting, phone support, and role-based access.

Where you can connect Mailchimp on your Squarespace website

There are several ways you can integrate Mailchimp on your Squarespace website, and, as a website designer, I’ve found quite a few of them!

First, you can add a form block for email signup to your Squarespace website. You might title this something like “Sign up to stay in touch!” or encourage visitors to sign up with a freebie. Here, visitors can enter their name and email address to be signed up for your email list and, if applicable, receive an automated welcome email directly from your Mailchimp account.

You can also use a newsletter block to do something very similar. Squarespace comes with several newsletter blocks which encourage visitors to sign up for an email list, so feel free to add one of them to your website and integrate it directly with Mailchimp!

In addition to (or instead of) blocks on the pages of your website, you can also add a promotional popup to your website that is triggered by something (such as someone mousing over the “back” button,) or appearing after a certain amount of seconds. This popup will look very similar to your form block, but will capture attention and darken the rest of the screen.

How to Connect Mailchimp

If you’re ready to integrate your Mailchimp platform with your Squarespace website, you can do so by following these simple steps:

1. Inside the form or newsletter block, click the pencil icon to edit

2. Click on storage, then other storage options

3. Click on Mailchimp

4. Log in or set up your account in the pop up window. Authorize the connection

5. Choose the list you want to connect

6. Click save!
