Showit Ecommerce: How to Sell Digital Products

Digital products are having a moment, and honestly, I’m here for it.

In 2023 alone, online shopping hit a wild $4.34 trillion (yep, trillion), and it’s only going up. Experts are projecting we’ll cross $7 trillion by 2027. And digital downloads? They’re already holding their own in a $331 billion market.

So if you’ve been sitting on a product idea—maybe a template, guide, or digital course—or you’ve already created something amazing and just need to start selling it, now’s a really good time.

And this is the part where most people ask me: “Okay, cool… but does Showit have e-commerce?”

Totally fair question, and as a Showit website designer, I get it a lot.

Here’s the short answer: yes, you absolutely can sell on Showit.

While it doesn’t come with built-in e-commerce features like Shopify or Squarespace Commerce, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. In fact, once you know what tools to pair it with, adding e-commerce to Showit is totally doable.

The bonus is you get to keep all that creative freedom Showit is known for. You get to design a site that feels like you and works exactly the way you want it to. And when it comes to actually selling your digital products, all you need is a way to accept payments and deliver the goods.

That’s where tools like Shopify Buy Buttons, ThriveCart, and WooCommerce come in.

Here, I’ll walk you through my three favorite e-commerce integrations for Showit—whether you’re just dipping your toes into selling or ready to build out a full-blown online shop that works for you.

But first…

What Makes an E-commerce Website Actually Work?

Here’s the truth: selling online isn’t just about having great products. It’s about creating a website experience that feels seamless, trustworthy, and easy to shop.

In fact, 94% of first impressions are design-related, and almost half of shoppers judge your credibility based on how your site looks.

As a Showit website designer, I’ve worked with dozens of creatives, small business owners, and other service providers, and I can tell you, design and user experience make or break online sales. If your layout is clunky, your branding is inconsistent, or your site’s slow to load, people bounce. And fast.

If you’re curious what that can look like in action, here’s one of my favorite Showit design projects I did for Jennifer Mooney, a Montana-based photographer who shoots weddings, engagements, proposals, and elopements. It’s clean, modern, and totally customized to her vibe.

So, what really matters?

  • Do cohesive branding. Keep your fonts, colors, and images consistent across your shop and website. Even your “Buy Now” buttons should feel like part of your brand. Consistency builds trust, and studies show it can even boost revenue.

  • Do simple, familiar layout. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Stick with what shoppers expect: logo top-left, clean navigation bar, product grid, clear CTAs. A clutter-free page helps the eye land on what really matters, which is your products and the purchase button.

  • Make sure the design is mobile-first. More than 50% of purchases happen on phones. But mobile cart abandonment is over 80%, often because of clunky checkout or slow pages. So: make it fast, tappable, and totally mobile-friendly.

  • Speed matters. Nearly 47% of people expect your site to load in under 2 seconds, and 40% will leave if it takes more than 3 seconds. Yikes. Use compressed images, limit heavy scripts, and lean into Showit’s built-in tools to keep your shop snappy, especially if you’re embedding third-party carts like Shopify or ThriveCart.

  • Build trust everywhere. Add visible trust signals: SSL badges, PayPal/Stripe logos, refund policies. Even a small “Secure Checkout” note can ease fears. Shopify found 17% of cart abandons are due to security concerns alone.

  • There should be clear CTAs. Your “Add to Cart” or “Buy Now” button should be obvious. No guessing, no hiding. Keep your navigation simple and don’t bury checkout behind extra clicks. Remember the K-I-S-S rule: Keep It Simple, Smartie.

  • Don’t skip SEO. Even though Showit is design-first, basic SEO still matters. Use page titles, alt text, and keyword-rich product descriptions. A faster, mobile-optimized site also performs better in search and helps people find what you’re selling.

My Top 3 Ways to Sell Digital Products on Showit

1. Shopify Buy Buttons

If you’re looking for the quickest and most beginner-friendly way to sell digital products on your Showit site, Shopify’s Buy Button is where I recommend starting to all of my clients.

Their Starter Plan is just $5/month (replacing the older $9 Lite plan), and it lets you embed “Add to Cart” buttons directly on your Showit pages. When someone clicks, a secure Shopify checkout slides in. No full store build required.

Over 4.65 million websites use Shopify (yep, it’s that trusted), and Showit officially supports this integration. It also happens to be the most common route I see clients take when they want to start selling digital products. I’ve personally helped several clients set up and embed their Shopify buttons on Showit with ease.

You’ll get:

  • A slick little cart

  • Payment processing through Stripe and PayPal

  • The ability to apply coupon codes

  • No need to mess with code

Here’s how to set it up:

  • Create a Shopify account with the Starter Plan

  • Add your products (name, price, image, and any downloadable file)

  • Go to Sales Channels > Buy Button, and create your button

  • Copy the embed code

  • Paste it into an “Embed Code” box on your Showit product page

  • (Optional) Instead of using Shopify’s button design, link a custom Showit button to your Shopify checkout link for a more on-brand look

Pro Tip: Shopify’s embed code is super lightweight, so your page load speed won’t take a hit. The checkout process happens on Shopify’s servers (aka, fast + secure).

Who this is great for:

If you’re just starting out or have a smaller catalog (under 10 products), this is perfect. Think:

→ A photographer selling preset packs

→ A designer with 2–3 digital templates

→ A coach offering a webinar replay

It’s easy, affordable, and gives you full confidence knowing Shopify is doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes.

2. ThriveCart Integration

Selling one main product, like a course, coaching package, or bundle? ThriveCart might be your new best friend.

ThriveCart is built for digital products and high-converting sales funnels, not full stores. Instead of hosting a shop, you create fully branded checkout pages that you link to from your Showit site.

It’s a one-time payment (around $495), which means no monthly fees, no transaction fees (just Stripe/PayPal), and full ownership.

What’s cool about ThriveCart:

  • Create custom checkout pages with your own branding

  • Add upsells, bump offers, or downsells to boost cart value

  • Set up recurring payments or subscriptions

  • Use affiliate tracking (Pro plan)

  • Host your course content using ThriveCart Learn (their built-in LMS)

They’ve processed over $5 billion in sales for 50,000+ users. Not too shabby.

Here’s how to set it up:

  • Purchase ThriveCart (Standard or Pro)

  • Connect your Stripe or PayPal account

  • Add your product(s), price, file delivery, and design your checkout page

  • Generate a link or embed code

  • Drop that into your Showit page or button

Because the checkout happens on ThriveCart’s server, your Showit site stays light and fast. You just link or embed, and boom! It works.

Who this is great for:

→ Course creators

→ Coaches selling a high-ticket offer

→ Digital business owners with 1–3 core products

ThriveCart is perfect if you’re focused on funnels over catalogs, and want to build a smooth, conversion-optimized checkout that feels fully aligned with your brand.

Just note: You’ll create separate checkout flows per product. You won’t have a searchable shop grid like Shopify or WooCommerce. But for simple, intentional offers, it’s a dream.

3. WooCommerce Integration

If you’re building a larger store with lots of products, categories, or advanced shop needs, then WooCommerce is the way to go.

It’s a WordPress plugin (used by over 3.5 million online stores), and it integrates with Showit through your Advanced Blog plan.

Not sure if the Advanced Blog plan is right for you? This comparison I wrote on Showit vs WordPress breaks it all down—features, flexibility, and when to use which.

This setup is more complex, but it gives you full control. Here’s how to do it:

  • Sell unlimited digital (or physical) products

  • Create categories, apply filters, manage orders

  • Offer subscriptions, memberships, bundles, and more

  • Use plugins to customize everything from checkout to delivery

What you’ll need:

  • Showit’s Advanced Blog plan (to access WordPress backend)

  • WooCommerce plugin installed on your WordPress dashboard

  • Your products added with prices, images, and download settings

  • Your blog templates in Showit set up for Shop, Product, and Checkout pages

  • Some light CSS or developer help for custom styling (optional but helpful!)

Pro Tip: Since everything is hosted on your domain, WooCommerce gives you more SEO power. Your product pages are crawlable, indexable, and part of your actual website structure.

Who this is great for:

→ A designer selling 20+ templates

→ A course platform with tons of content

→ A business with both physical and digital offers

→ Anyone who wants an on-site, search-friendly shop without sending people off to other platforms

Heads-up: This option does take more setup and tech confidence. But if you’re looking to scale your shop or build a more robust store, WooCommerce has the flexibility to grow with you.

Which Ecommerce Setup is Right for You?

Here’s the truth: there’s no one-size-fits-all.

Your dream ecommerce setup depends on where you are right now, what you’re selling, and how much tech you want to manage behind the scenes.

If you’re just getting started and only need to sell a handful of digital products? Shopify Buy Buttons are the simplest and most affordable way to test the waters. You’ll get a secure cart, Stripe/PayPal integration, and a quick setup for just $5/month. It’s ideal for smaller catalogs and new shops.

If you’re selling courses, bundles, or coaching and want to play with upsells, bump offers, or even affiliate programs? ThriveCart might be your best friend. You pay once, no monthly fees, and you can fully brand your checkout experience. Perfect for creators who want more marketing muscle.

If you’re building a full-fledged online shop with lots of products, categories, or memberships? WooCommerce + Showit gives you serious flexibility (as long as you’re on the Advanced Blog plan). Yes, setup takes more effort, but you’ll have full control, SEO perks, and a smooth on-site shopping experience.

Whichever path you choose, keep your design clean, your branding consistent, and your buying process crystal-clear.

Think: easy navigation, standout CTA buttons, mobile-friendly layouts, and fast-loading pages. Your store should feel like a natural extension of your brand and not a clunky add-on.

Remember, the goal isn’t just to make something look pretty. It’s to make buying easy, trustworthy, and aligned with your unique style.
