SEO Tips for Life Coaches
So you just launched your online coaching business with an active social media strategy…
But you're struggling to capture more leads.
SEO might just be the solution!
With SEO, your website becomes more visible to those searching for terms related to your business and coaching services.
Sadly, most coaches think SEO won't work for them. Or they think blogging is dead.
So if you are one of those people who is wondering “Will SEO help my life coaching business?"
The answer is yes! Let’s dive in…
What is SEO?
SEO (search engine optimization) is a process that helps businesses rank on Google.
SEO is an important strategy for small business owners who want to increase traffic to their websites.
Implementing SEO on your website and in your blog posts will increase your chances of appearing high in the search results for terms relating to “life coach.”
Before we dive into the nitty gritty details, let’s chat through some benefits first…
Benefits of Using SEO
Although the coaching industry is competitive, not many are focusing their marketing efforts on SEO.
This is actually a good thing because you'll have a better opportunity to rank higher than other online coaches or your competitors.
So, tell me...
Wouldn’t you love to wake up to emails from potential clients saying they found you via Google?
SEO will help your name and website appear at the top of search results when people search for your services.
Here is more of what you stand to gain:
Clients find you, not the other way around
The beauty of SEO is that clients find you when they are actively searching for solutions to their problems. With SEO, you can drive traffic to your coaching website.
This is vital since traffic leads to more email subscribers and clients.
And the more focus you put on SEO, the higher your website will rank on Google's search results.
You can rank on Google for years
Unlike social media, you'll get to reap the rewards for years to come once you've mastered SEO.
Provided your content remains relevant and is a high quality resource for people, it could stay at the top of the search results for a long period.
Social media, on the other hand, requires continuous updates and promotions.
You can create an evergreen lead generation system
Because content can rank on Google for years, this allows you to be visible all the time to people who are ideal clients.
You’ll be able to continuously grow your leads with all this traffic that is coming to your website.
This means you can say goodbye to expensive ads.
Not only are you saving money with this organic marketing strategy, but you’re also building trust.
I don’t know about you, but I always skip right over ads and scroll to the first set of organic websites for any search that I do.
Your website won’t sit in the abyss of Google
Most business owners think that once they launch a website, people will magically be drawn to it.
If that’s you, no shame - I also had those hopes after spending countless hours trying to build my business from the ground up.
The great thing about SEO is that your website is no longer a static brochure - it’s a marketing funnel that allows you to be visible all the time.
So if you spend thousands of dollars on a website redesign, SEO ensures that people are actually finding it, interacting with your content, and getting in touch.
How to Use SEO to Get Leads for Your Life Coaching Services
Time for the strategy piece!
If you’re ready to attract more clients through your website, then you’re going to want to keep on reading.
Here's how to use SEO to generate leads for your life coaching services.
Optimize your website to target the keywords you want to rank for
Keywords are the key phrases your ideal clients use to search for content or products.
By incorporating these keywords onto your website, Google will see the correlation between what you offer and what people are searching for.
Use long-tail keywords
A keyword can be one word or multiple words. For small business owners, it is best to focus on long tail keywords (a string of 3 words or more).
For example, you could have a goal to rank for “life coach.” However, that is going to be a tough word to rank for if you are just starting your business.
Some long tail keyword options are “life coaching services” or "life coach South Carolina'' if you would like to target people locally.
Long-tail keywords convert better since they are less competitive than normal keywords. They focus more on a niche, helping you attract more ideal clients.
How do you find long tail keywords?
Moz, SEMRush, and Ahrefs are just a few of the best tools available.

Where to put keywords
Throughout your website, you want to add your keyword in several places.
It’s also important to note that each page of your website should target a different word so that the pages do not compete with each other.
Here are some important places to add keywords:
Title tag - a description of your page using only the main keyword and your brand/company name
Meta description - a 1-2 sentence description of what the page topic is
Website copy - you want to incorporate the main keyword on each page in an organic way so that it doesn’t sound robotic
Image file name - the name of your image which helps Google understand what the context is
Image alt text - a descriptor so visually impaired people can understand what the image is
Write blog posts that satisfy answers to people’s questions
Once your website is optimized, it's time to write. As you write, make sure your blog posts satisfy answers to questions people search for.
Is the user looking for a specific solution? Is the user looking for a tutorial on how to use a product? Is it a top-ten list or a how-to guide?
Your blog post should, above all things, use the keywords as the main topics of each post.
But to maximize your SEO efforts, give your target audience exactly what they desire — quality, comprehensive, and helpful content.
And over time, reviewing and updating your popular posts will encourage repeat engagement.
The more you write actionable and valuable content, the more people will come back to your blog time and time again.
You’ll be top of mind when someone is ready to invest in services similar to yours.
Similar to above, there are a few key areas to add your main keyword for each post:
URL
H1 tag (blog post title)
Meta description
First sentence or paragraph of your content
Throughout the blog post body content
Image file name
Image alt text
Your blog posts should be at least 1,000 words - otherwise, Google will not deem them as valuable to searchers.

Add CTA’s in your blog post content
It’s one thing to attract someone to your website from Google. It’s another to entice them to give them your email address or sign up for a free consultation.
For this reason, every blog post should have a CTA.
I always recommend the bottom of the blog post so that a reader is invited to take the next step after they’ve read through your awesome content!
You can simply add a couple sentences and a call to action with a button to check out your services. If you keep reading, you’ll see an example of that at the bottom of this post ;)
