5 Benefits of Using Squarespace for Photographers

I have been a Squarespace and Showit website designer for 3 years now, and one of my favorite types of clients to recommend the Squarespace website building platform to is photographers.

Squarespace has numerous features that are beneficial to photographers, making it a great choice for any who are looking to launch or revamp their brand.

Today, I’m covering five benefits of using Squarespace for photographers to help you make the right choice for your business - and grow your platform like never before.

1. User friendly

One of my favorite talking points about Squarespace for ANY business owner is its ease of use.

It’s one of the most user-friendly platforms I have come across as a website designer, making it a phenomenal option for the busy photographer looking to showcase their work easily and efficiently.

The backend of Squarespace is not full of mystery “code” language or difficult settings - instead, its drag and drop features make it super easy to create, update, and maintain a beautiful, working website.

As a photographer, it’s likely that you know how to use a variety of editing softwares and tools - but website building platforms lie outside of that domain, and you don’t have time to learn an entirely new skill set while growing your business.

For this reason, I recommend Squarespace. The learning curve is low, but that certainly doesn’t show on the finished product.

With this being said, if it is within your budget, I still recommend hiring a Squarespace and Showit website designer to help you create a website that will work for your business without constant maintenance.

While the DIY route can seem cheaper in the short-term, I often find with clients that it’s actually cheaper in the long run to invest early on in a website designer!

This is because, while DIYing a website can help get your business off the ground initially, as you grow, you will likely end up needing to invest in a professional website designer anyway - meaning it may make more sense for you to start out with the investment and go from there.

2. Clean design

As a photographer, one of the most important aspects of your website will be its design.

Ensuring you showcase your work (and your brand) in the best possible light is essential to finding your ideal clients and getting them to click “book.”

On Squarespace, it’s easier to create an uncluttered and nicely designed website compared to Wordpress.

There is a huge variety of clean, beautiful Squarespace templates (both free and paid) that allow for customization to your liking without your website looking unprofessional or crowded.

This allows your audience to view your photography in all its glory without the distraction of jumbled text, too many buttons, oddly-placed design components, or disorganization.

And, there are enough templates available on Squarespace (and from fellow Squarespace website designers) that your website won’t end up looking just like every other DIY’ed photography website out there!

It will have its own design, spunk, and branding, which will help it stand out to potential clients and appear professional from the get-go.

3. Different gallery options

As a photographer, you want complete control over how your work is portrayed on your website - which makes Squarespace’s abundance of gallery options perfect for you.

Depending on your photography type and style, you can choose between classic, straight-line galleries, fun and funky grids, or even poised carousels of your best shots to showcase your work in a way that encompasses the style of your brand.

The plethora of options that Squarespace offers when it comes to EVERYTHING customization, including galleries, make it one of my favorite platforms to use and recommend to clients and/or other business owners.

4. Easy blog set-up

It’s likely that your blog will not only be used to drive traffic to your website through the posting of useful content such as “How to choose the perfect photographer” or “How many years of experience should your photographer have?” but also to give potential clients a glimpse into what a session with you would be like.

Squarespace’s easy blog set-up allows you to showcase a variety of content, including posts with plenty of photos - essential to the website of a photographer.

Besides posting search-engine-loving content, you should also make use of your blog by documenting other sessions with clients (with permission, of course!)

You can take potential clients through an entire shoot, from prep to beautiful results. Including finished photos and behind-the-scenes looks for reference is a great way to garner attention and establish yourself as a professional photographer online.

5. Necessary SEO settings for ranking on Google

Lastly, Squarespace offers the necessary SEO settings for ranking on Google, which is essential to gaining passive traffic and finding potential clients through the magic of internet search!

Trust me, I’m a Squarespace SEO expert that has been optimizing websites since 2016.

You can have perfectly SEO-optimized content, but if your website platform doesn’t have the necessary SEO settings for ranking, your content will still go undiscovered.

One thing I love about Squarespace is the ability to provide alt text for almost every image you upload - built right into the backend of the platform.

This is a little-known way to boost SEO, but it’s also EXTREMELY important.
