Because on the surface there’s so many little reasons for why I quit my stable 9-5 at a top SEO firm.⁣

And the decision to peace outta there was more than just the feeling that it was slowly draining my soul.⁣

➡ I realized that most of my life was spent living in the shadows⁣

As a child, through high school and college, and beyond…⁣
⁣
There were so many times where I felt like I didn’t belong.⁣
⁣
Feeling like I wasn’t good enough.⁣
⁣
Or smart enough⁣
⁣
Or pretty enough⁣
⁣
Or confident enough⁣
⁣
But that’s the beauty of this business journey.⁣
⁣
To thrive, you have to throw ALL the BS out the window.⁣

And DO YOU.⁣

And for me?⁣

That is waking up every day and working to continuously push myself out of the shadows⁣

MY BIGGEST MISTAKE WHEN I STARTED BUILDING MY WEBSITE⁣
⁣ ❌Not choosing a template the RIGHT way⁣
⁣
I went into the Squarespace template library and found a template that was categorized as perfect for businesses.⁣
⁣
But I didn’t take the time to understand the specific capabilities of that template.⁣
⁣
And once I started building it out and finding the exact design features Squarespace allowed for that I wanted, I realized my template was limited.⁣
⁣
❌That lead me back to the drawing board...TWICE.⁣
⁣
😅As you might have guessed, I have learned my lesson.⁣
⁣
And it’s one of the BIGGEST mistakes I see.⁣
⁣
It’s also why I hear this a lot: “Squarespace has no customization.”⁣
⁣ ➡ That’s because biz owners aren’t taking the time to do the RESEARCH for which template is best⁣
⁣
So here’s what ya gotta do...⁣
⁣ ➡ Be sure to look beyond the surface of what type of business is being showcased within a template.⁣
⁣
Just because you run a yoga studio and you see a template with a faux yoga studio doesn’t mean it’s the right template for you.⁣
⁣
Or that a template showcasing a fashion blog is going to meet all your needs as a blogger. ⁣
⁣
Take note of the structural aspects of the website you want when choosing a template, not the immediate aesthetic you see when scrolling through the options.⁣
⁣
For example...⁣
⁣
➡ Do you like the dropdown menu on the side or do you want the navigation shown at the top across the page?⁣
⁣
➡ Do you like the large banner images stacked on top of one another?⁣
⁣
➡ Do you like parallax (ie the “melting” look of images) as you scroll down a page?⁣
⁣
➡ Do you want a second footer?⁣
⁣
Your list of must-haves should be decided on FIRST before choosing a template and designing.⁣
⁣
Have you made this mistake before when trying to DIY?

IT’S EITHER ALL OR NOTHING⁣

Most of the time, your website is in the deep dark abyss of your to-do list.⁣
⁣
You know it’s lingering there, every damn week.⁣
⁣
You say you’ll get to it, but most weeks you don’t.⁣

But then you have those nights where you feel like you can conquer the world and you decide to have a go at it.⁣

You’re hunched over your laptop, eyes glazed over with a glass of wine next to you, burning the midnight oil tryin to tweak your website to perfection.⁣

But expectation doesn’t meet reality.⁣
⁣
What you thought was going to take 10 minutes took you 3 hours.⁣

You didn’t make any REAL progress.⁣

And by that point, you feel defeated and completely drained.⁣

You know you’re not design or tech savvy, so why do you keep putting yourself through the torture of trying to figure it all out on your own?⁣
