5 Reasons to Blog on Squarespace

If you’ve read my past blog posts, you know how much I stress that you should be blogging for your business

(Hint: It’s a lot.)

A blog is great for creating long-lasting content that attracts potential clients by giving them value before they ever officially start working with you, building trust and a positive rapport from the very beginning of your relationship.

And, if you’ve decided to take the leap and start your dream blog to attract dream clients, you may be wondering what comes next.

Before you even start writing, it’s important to plan out where your posts are going to live - after all, without the perfect home, your posts may never actually be seen

You might be wondering, “Is squarespace good for blogging?”

There are TONS of blog hosting options, all with different features that attract business owners like you. I’ve tried a few myself, including Wordpress, Wix and Showit, but I’ve found Squarespace to be the best option for service-based business owners.

Based on my own experience a Squarespace SEO expert and website designer, I’ve compiled the most important reasons why I blog on this platform to help you determine if it is the right host for you!

1. Clean design

One of the most important aspects of any blog is its look. Your content can be amazing, but if it’s hard to read, your website is difficult to navigate, or your interface is simply not aesthetically pleasing, your readers aren’t going to stay - or come back.

This makes Squarespace a fantastic blog hosting candidate.

I use Squarespace to host my own website and blog, and I love the simplistic yet elegant designs offered by the variety of templates available when you set up your website.

It’s easy to make your blog have personality with colors and a unique design without appearing cluttered. And, while I offer many different types of content on my blog, from reviews to search engine optimization basics, Squarespace makes it easy to group closely related content into easily-searchable categories so readers aren’t disoriented or confused.

The blog page is very easy to design and customize for your needs. Whether you want to include an excerpt, publish date, and category below each post or just showcase a Pinterest friendly graphic for sharing, Squarespace makes it super easy.

What does clean design mean for you?

Because your website will be clear and easy to navigate, you will be able to cover a variety of topics on your blog and group them by category, allowing you to reach a variety of readers (who are actually potential clients.)

In addition, you can be confident that the content you post is complemented by your website’s design, not hindered by it.

This peace of mind is invaluable when it comes to blogging - and you’ll find that investment in the beginning in exchange for a seamless website from day one is completely worth it.

2. Strong SEO

Next up on my list? SEO.

I’ve written plenty of blog posts about making sure your content is optimized to rank on Google, but I’ll let you in on another little secret: not being able to customize the SEO settings on your website can seriously impact your ability to appear in search results.

Newsflash - you don't need Wordpress or the Yoast SEO plugin to rank on page 1 of Google. That’s misinformation spread around online by business owners who don’t fully understand SEO. I spent 2 years in the SEO industry and I saw the inner workings of campaigns for billion dollar global brands.

Because Squarespace automatically produces pages with a clean HTML markup that is easy for Google to index (i.e. read and understand), it’s easy to optimize your content through writing alone.

You don’t have to worry about formatting heading tags or organizing content strategically on the page - Squarespace does it for you.

In addition, Squarespace has built-in tools that help you optimize your blog content directly inside the platform, making it the perfect place to draft your blog posts, as well.

One example is AMP, which stands for accelerated mobile pages. This helps blog posts load quickly on mobile devices, which is extremely important for user experience.

Inside of each blog post, you can optimize each of these elements:

Why is SEO so important, you ask?

It can make ALL the difference in your content being seen and read, or remaining at the bottom of search results, unseen, for all eternity. (Dramatic, but true!)

If you’re going to spend time and energy crafting blog posts for your readers, you certainly want to invest in a blog host that allows your posts to be discovered by people who don’t already regularly visit your website.

This is the key to finding, attracting, and booking new clients - and Squarespace’s SEO capabilities makes all the difference.

3. User-friendly backend

For the business-owning web developers out there, this point probably won’t make much of a difference in your choice of blog host.

But, for the majority of business owners who don’t know how to code, choosing a host that has a user-friendly backend is extremely important.

After all, it can determine whether or not you can actually use your own website, and how much time and energy it takes to do so. (No one wants to spend hours of their Saturday trying to figure out where the mistake is in the HTML code that makes your website crash regularly, when they could be working with clients instead!)

Squarespace has a super easy-to-use backend, complete with a “website builder” that allows you to easily build pages, manage your navigation menus, and publish/organize content without knowing a single line of code.

This makes it perfect for the newbie blogger who feels intimidated by the idea of building a blog from scratch!

Squarespace, complete with a variety of pre-made templates, does the hard work for you. The creators make sure your only task is clicking and dragging to craft the perfect website setup for your business, so you can spend your time doing what you do best - working with clients.

4. Summary blocks

This is an amazing feature inside Squarespace and works especially well for blog posts. Summary blocks allow you to showcase your blog posts in all different kinds of ways:

  • Most recent blog posts

  • Featured blog posts

  • Category-specific blog posts

  • Tag-specific blog posts

You can also style them in different ways, from grid to gallery view.

Want to showcase your most recent blog posts on your homepage or feature certain blog posts at the top of your blog page? Summary blocks make this possible!

5. Google Analytics and Search Console integration

This is by far one of the coolest features about Squarespace. No need to log into Google Analytics and Google Search Console separately because this data gets pulled directly into the Analytics tab of your website.

Why does this matter for blogging?

It helps you see what posts are performing best, click through data for buttons in your posts, where your blog posts are appearing in Google for different keywords, and more!

I use this data on a biweekly or monthly basis to help me decide which blog content to write next. I love that it’s neatly organized so it doesn’t appear overwhelming, which is what can happen when you log into Google Analytics or Search Console directly.

Ready to get started?

These are just five of the many reasons I choose to blog on Squarespace. All of its features allow me to save time, money, and energy while consistently posting beautiful, optimized content from the comfort of my own home.
