Is There a Squarespace SEO Plugin?
Many business owners looking to do SEO, or search engine optimization, on their Squarespace website often wonder, “Is there a SEO plugin for Squaresspace?”
Or they’re curious if there is a Yoast SEO plugin for Squarespace.
The short answer is no.
But before you exit outta here, let me explain this in more detail...
What Yoast SEO is
Yoast SEO is a Wordpress plugin. Specifically for blog posts, it’s used to help you optimize your content for the keywords you want to rank for in Google.
You insert the keyword you want to rank for and Yoast SEO will notify you with a red, yellow, or green icon in regards to how well your page or post is optimized for that keyword.
However, Yoast SEO does not do keyword research for you. That means you could be optimizing your post for a long tail keyword (3 or more words) that no one is searching for.
Womp womp.
Also, Squarespace doesn’t allow plugins because it’s very specific to Wordpress. Therefore there is no Yoast SEO for Squarespace. The only “plugins” you will see in relation to Squarespace are pieces of code you can add to make your design more unique.
What matters with ranking in Google
I worked in the SEO industry for 2 years. I worked on accounts for billion dollar global brands, celebrities, activists and high profile lawyers.
And I can tell you this.
What actually matters when it comes to ranking your website in Google is the quality of the content, not the platform.
However, I will say to stay away from Wix and Weebly. They’re not highly regarded in the website designer community.
But getting back to this point, blogging is super important if you want to rank on page 1 of Google. Yes, Yoast SEO does save you a little bit of time but you can easily optimize your blog posts through Squarespace without a tool.
The sole task of adding keywords to your 5 page website will get you nowhere. That typically turns into keyword stuffing, which is something you don’t want to be doing (see spammy SEO examples here).
Why you don’t need Wordpress
Whenever I scroll through a Facebook group full of online entrepreneurs and see the question of “which website builder should I use for my business?” I always see a response along the lines of “Wordpress is best for SEO if you want to rank in Google.”
That is utter bullshit.
Oops 🙊
Let’s get the record straight:
Having Wordpress does not give you a boost in the rankings
Having Yoast SEO does not give you a boost in the rankings
For online business owners, you do not need to have Wordpress or Yoast SEO to rank on page 1 of Google
If you are a social media manager, virtual assistant, photographer, brand designer, copywriter, calligrapher, online coach (health, life, fitness, business, etc), Squarespace’s SEO capabilities are perfect for you.
Still not convinced?
A former client ranks on page 1 for “mindset coach ”(2,900+ searches/month)
A former client ranks on page 1 for “manifestation coach” (450+ searches/month)
A writer who is a student of my SEO course, SEO Strategy Simplified, ranks on page 1
3 websites (including the #1 spot) on page 1 for “branding coach” (2,600 searches/month) are from Squarespace
And guess what? They all have Squarespace! I rank on page 1 for several Squarespace-related terms because I put out awesome content that Google deems as valuable in addition to properly optimizing my Squarespace website.
