How to Secure Your Squarespace Website with SSL

After all the time and energy you’ve invested into your Squarespace website, the last thing you want is for it to lack security.

Lacking the proper SSL security can leave your website vulnerable to hackers and impersonators who not only threaten the safety of your website, but also threaten the safety of your customers and clients and their personal information.

Today, I’m going to be taking you through everything SSL and how to secure your Squarespace website.

What SSL is - and Why it’s Essential

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, and is vital for ensuring your website is safe for processing and storing users’ information such as credit card numbers and contact information.

SSL certificates are essential for your Squarespace website because they give you AND your website’s visitors peace of mind when it comes to collecting and storing the information you need from them in order to run a successful business - from email addresses, to phone numbers, to credit card info.

SSL certifications are especially important if you are, indeed, taking credit card payments on your website, as you may miss out on sales if your customers notice your website is not secure.

The last thing anyone wants is for their credit card information to be stolen - and the last thing you want, as a business owner, is for your customers’ credit card information to be stolen from YOUR website.

In addition, having proper SSL not only helps you secure your Squarespace website, but gives you a higher Google search ranking and an SEO boost.

This helps your website be discovered by new visitors - which can convert to new clients - by allowing your website to appear higher up in Google search results, and thus, garner more clicks.

Between making websites more secure and boosting their SEO, turning on SSL is the perfect next step for the business owner looking to take their website to the next level.

How to Turn On SSL

Turning on SSL isn’t a difficult process - and to prove it, I’m going to take you through the process from start to finish so you can be confident in your website’s security.

Note: SSL is automatically included with Squarespace websites, but it can be a good idea to double check the backend!

Here’s how to turn on SSL:

1. Click settings

2. Click advanced

3. Click SSL

It will show whether or not it’s active next to SSL.

4. Check settings

You’ll want to make sure that HSTS Secure is on as well so users are always viewing the secure version of your website.

Easy enough, right? That’s the simple way to enable SSL.
