Floral Healing Therapy: Squarespace Website Design

Heather of Floral Healing Therapy is a licensed mental health counselor in Oregon and Washington.

Her business is unique compared to other therapy services because she created the concept of Floral Healing Therapy!

Heather began developing the idea of FHT in 2018 and opened her private practice in April 2019.

So what is Floral Healing Therapy (FHT)?

FHT is all about the healing power of nature and fresh flowers. Heather provides counseling with flower arranging to adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma and life stressors.

Through flowers and talk therapy, she helps people express themselves, live in the moment and improve their mental health.

Heather’s mission with Floral healing Therapy is to reconnect humans to nature by combining flowers and talk therapy.

Heather had previously DIYed her website and was ready for a more professional look, especially since she was planning to take her business full time.

She was often frustrated when trying to update anything on her website, and implementing cohesive design on a website or design software was foreign to her.

Many of my clients experience the same feelings, which is why they come to me of course!

Heather hired me to redo her logo and redesign her Squarespace website, and I’m breaking down the process we went through in this post.

Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Color palette and fonts

After filling out the questionnaire and putting together the mood board for the first impression, it was time to dive into the color palette and logo design.

Heather wanted her website to exude these emotions:

  • Joyful

  • Official

  • Inspired by nature

She wanted to incorporate colors from nature and flowers like purples, oranges, blues, greens, mauve pink. However, she wanted to stay away from shades of red, yellow or brown.

Here are a few color palette options I put together.

After a few different variations, we narrowed it down to a mix between two and three.

For fonts, we went with Montserrat and Lora. You can see the contrast between fonts below.

Step 2: Marketing Collateral

Heather also wanted some Facebook page cover graphics. Here are the different options I put together.

Step 3: Website Design

For the website, Heather wanted the fonts and images to have bright colors but wanted the website to have an airy feel to it with lots of white space.

It was important that we made it clear what FHT is so potential clients wouldn’t be confused and instead be curious about learning more and getting in touch.

Heather didn’t want parallax scrolling (when a photo background moves as you scroll down a page) or drop down menus. So I made sure to not include either of those features. Since Heather had a simple navigation, there was no need to add a drop down menu anyway.

Time for some before and after photos!

Below are before and after screenshots of the home, about and services pages.

Here is her homepage…

Here is her about page…

Here is her services page…

Big difference, right?

In addition to home, about, and services, I also built out these pages:

  • Events

  • Blog

  • Contact

Step 4: Website launch

The final step of the project is website handoff!

I jumped on a Zoom call with Heather, where I

  • transferred website ownership to her

  • moved the domain over to the new website

  • connected Google Analytics/Google Search Console

  • walked through simple tweaks and changes she can make in the future

I handed over all of the design files, Canva links, and gave her access to my client library of video tutorials.

She was really excited about the launch and I’m so grateful to have worked with her on this project.

Here's what Heather had to say about working with me...

“Before working with Lauren, I felt like my current online presence wasn't fully representing me or my value as a therapist and healer.

I liked the streamlined process. I appreciated how Lauren kept me focused and there was a clear timeline. I appreciated the deadlines, content editors and her professional opinions. Having a more official and professional online presence will help my ideal clients find me and will help keep me motivated to write blog content.

I would recommend Lauren's services to people who are looking to improve their online presence and increase traffic to their website. Lauren knows what she's doing and is a pleasure to work with.”
