6 Best Websites for Squarespace CSS
As a Squarespace and Showit website designer, I am often advising Squarespace users on how to use custom CSS on their websites.
This is necessary when someone wants to use a feature or style that doesn’t automatically come with their Squarespace template, and wants to ensure that their website stands out from the rest in their industry.
What is CSS and what does it do?
In short, CSS stands for “cascading style sheet,” and involves the process of inputting new code into your website in order to change fonts, colors, backgrounds, and more that aren’t automatically able to be changed through your website’s premade template.
Before we get started, it should be noted that Squarespace advises that the CSS editor only be used to change fonts, colors, and backgrounds, because other, more dramatic changes can harm your website.
In addition, Squarespace notes that ALL custom code changes (including Squarespace CSS) fall outside the scope of their support, meaning that if something goes wrong when you are editing the code, they may not be able to help you.
In addition, they cannot guarantee that the changes you made in the CSS editor will be compatible with your Squarespace website.
Keeping these things in mind, there are tried-and-tested sources where you can buy pre-written CSS code to use on your website (which you don’t have to worry about destroying your website or its display.)
Today, I’m going to be covering some of my favorite websites for finding Squarespace CSS for use on your business’s website!
Inside the Square
Inside the Square is one of my favorite places to learn fun, clean, and unique CSS code for clients’ websites.
Becca offers YouTube tutorials, courses, and cheat sheets, which help you make your website look amazing (standing out from the rest) without getting annoying “error” messages.
She offers several courses, which include An Intro to CSS for Squarespace, Getting Started with Squarespace 7.1, and (my personal favorite,) Custom Code Academy, which includes over twenty video lessons, guides, and cheat sheets which help you learn more about custom code.
SQSP Themes
This website is different from Becca’s in that it offers done-for-you templates and CSS plugins instead of tutorials.
While you won’t learn how to do it yourself with these products, you can download and go quickly without any learning curve.
There are tons of plugins on this site ranging in price from $19.99 to $59.99, and each one offers a different feature for your website.
Examples include accordion tabs, RSS feeds, and Facebook blog comments!
Square Stylist
I’ve purchased some of Square Stylist’s plugins for my clients’ websites before, and have been completely impressed every time.
She offers courses and templates on her site, so you can pick whichever is best for you!
Several of her courses are FREE, while others are paid—however, they all offer purchasers the ability to learn how to do Squarespace CSS themselves.
Two of her free courses are “Stylish Mobile Navigation” and “Change the Logo on a Specific Page.” Snatch them up while you can + make your site stand out!
In addition, she currently offers two templates, Linea and Mosaic, which both boast amazing style integrations and color schemes!
Ghost Plugins
I love Ghost Plugins because they offer FREE plugins for your website, including arch image card blocks, go arrow button styles, rounded corners image collage blocks, and animated gradient header buttons.
They also offer installed-for-you templates, which are installed within 24 hours and require no DIY video watching or tutorials.
This is a great option if you already have a website you love, but are looking for something extra to make it stand out without hiring a website designer.
SquareStudio
SquareStudio offers several plugins for Squarespace websites which are charged monthly, including product reviews, membership capabilities, counters, tabs, and more.
The layout of her site is unique, colorful, and user-friendly, and her plugins allow you to make your site just as impressive!
She even offers a couple of free monthly plugins, such as for SEO, which you can use to give your site an edge without breaking the bank.
Squarepaste
Last on my list (but no less useful) is Squarepaste, boasting the description “Squarepaste is a curation of well-crafted plugins, talented designers & developers. With detailed installation instructions in every purchase, you are fully equipped to enhance your website.”
It truly lives up to its word, offering an enormous amount of useful and unique plugins for your website. These include product and portfolio filtering and sorting capabilities, social filters, and more.
I recommend Squarepaste for those looking for Squarespace CSS plugins that are more about functionality than aesthetics (though they are all beautiful!)
